2010 Do's and Don'ts

Do's...

Socks with high heels:

Socks are no longer only being slipped on with a pair of runners for the gym; they're now being teamed with a pair of heels. Think back to your childhood when white frilled socks and black Mary Jane's were all the rage! Short socks or knee high socks, strappy heels or pumps, this is a key trend for 2010. Invest in some cute ankle socks in one of Spring's pastel shades and sport these with a pair of clogs or wedges. This look works well with knee length skirts, tailored or denim shorts and with summer dresses. Experiment with colours, fabrics and styles. Be creative!

Over-sized headbands:

Statement headpieces have been one of the front runners in fashion trends this year, whether it be a simple black turban or Spring's most popular choice, an over-sized bow headband. This look is very feminine and is all about making a statement so keep the rest of your ensemble simple and let your headpiece do the talking! The perfect way to conceal those bad hair days!

Plaited and braided hair:

2010 brings back the long side braid and the fish plait. It's this year's take on the simple pony tail. The re-emergence of this style was inspired by Alexander Wang's Spring 2010 runway show and looks super haaawwwt with some bangs!

Tribal and animal prints:

Tribal and animal prints never really go out of style and have once again graced store shelves and our wardrobes. Leopard prints have definitely been the leader of the 'pack' (pun intended) this year. Trend Style Warning: tread lightly when styling outfits using these prints or you could turn this 'safari' trend into 'road kill'. Remember, less is more and it's often best to partner this look with neutral shades, such as, black, cream or brown. The key is to keep it simple!

Jumpsuits and play suits:

Spring/Summer 2010 is all about jumpsuits and play suits. Actually, it's all about one-piece any things. Floral fabrics are definitely a key look in this design and you'll be able to pick up short or full length play suits almost anywhere. This season trend is very, 'house on the prairie'.

Don'ts...

Double denim:

Apparently this year saw the come back of double denim but as far as I'm concerned this trend should stay hidden in the past. Surely you can come up with something more creative to wear with your denim cut offs than a denim jacket. Why not try a racer back singlet, tailored blazer and wedges. For those cooler months, throw on a pair of tights underneath.

Oompa loompa:

As Summer draws near, spray tans will be back in full force. A natural, healthy glow always makes us look and feel better about ourselves, especially when hitting the beach or a summer festival. What isn't hot? Patchy, fluro orange spray tans. To avoid looking like an oompa loompa, pick up a gradual tanning lotion.

Meat suit:

Lady Gaga might be able to pull this look off but I assure you that she's probably the only one. Unless you want to be hunted down by every vegan in town I'd probably steer clear of this one.

  1. I don't think meat suits are out just yet...I'm thinking of rocking a pair of these next time I am having a BBQ.
